AUSTIN, Texas – Swarthmore College's
Michael Melnikov was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America First Team on Wednesday, becoming the first student-athlete in men's tennis program history to be selected an Academic All-American.
Melnikov also earned All-America status on the court in both singles and doubles for the third year in a row. He is the 16
th student-athlete in Swarthmore history across all sports to garner both All-America and Academic All-America honors in the same year, but just the fourth to do so as a First Team Academic All-America selection.
Melnikov was the Centennial Conference Player of the Year for the third straight season. He also was a first-team all-conference selection in singles for the third year in a row. A qualifier in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, Melnikov earned All-America honors in doubles along with partner
Utham Koduri for the third straight season as the pair reached the national semifinal round for the second time in three years. In singles, Melnikov reached the Round of 16 to earn All-America recognition. He went 24-6 in singles (15-3 at No. 1) and 23-6 in doubles, with the 23 wins matching a program mark.
Academically, Melnikov was chosen the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Performer of the Year for the second consecutive season. He is a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree. The junior has also been named to the Academic All-Centennial Team and the Centennial Academic Honor Roll twice each. In addition, Melnikov has received the Robert Dunn Trophy and the Lew Elverson Award at the past two Swarthmore Athletics Awards Banquets.
Melnikov's selection gives the Garnet at least one Academic All-American for the seventh year running. He is the 12
th student-athlete in Swarthmore history to be chosen to the first team but the first since Katie Jo McMenamin (women's track & field) in 2016.
