Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The No. 16 Swarthmore College men's tennis team had its four-match win streak snapped with a narrow 4-3 loss versus No. 10 Emory University on Sunday.
The Garnet claimed the doubles point for an early 1-0 lead. However, the Eagles won four straight bouts to begin singles play and clinch the match. Swarthmore won the last two matches of the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emory took the opening match at second doubles, 6-1, over
Kai Chen and
Andres Fente. The Garnet bounced back with two consecutive tiebreak victories to take the lead.
Michael Melnikov and
Utham Koduri came out on top 7-6 (7-3) at the top spot while
Max Lindstrom and
Winston Zhang pulled out a 7-6 (7-0) win at third doubles to increase their win streak to six.
- The Eagles started their run with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph against Lindstrom at second singles. Emory then defeated Melnikov at the first position, 6-3, 6-2.
Aamish Pal dropped a 2-6, 5-7 decision at sixth singles before the Eagles secured the win with a 6-4, 6-3 success versus
Rishi Verma at the third flight.
- Chen ended the Garnet's point drought with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 triumph at fifth singles.
Lalith Suresh won his sixth singles bout in a row with a 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory at the fourth position.
