Men’s Swimming Jumps Gettysburg Heading into Championship Finale, Wilson Rebreaks Centennial Record Twice

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swimming team jumped Gettysburg College as it climbed into sole possession of first place heading into tomorrow's Centennial Championship finale. The Garnet have 639 points, while the Bullets trail with 604 points. 

Cami Wilson headlined the day with a pair of record-breaking swims in the 100 butterfly. The junior beat his conference record in the preliminary session (47.72), while overtaking his record once more in the finals. Ham Williams-Tracy also set a program record with a silver medal in the 400 IM, while the 200 freestyle relay took gold with a record-breaking mark.

Danny Castle captured another event victory with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle. The sophomore has four gold medals this meet, and 11 total medals for his career. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- The men gained crucial points with a gold medal in the 200 freestyle relay, while Gettysburg settled for bronze in the event. The team of Wilson, Castle, Levi Tipton, and Cole Griscavage swam under the NCAA B cut with a time of 1:21.42. The quartet achieved a new program record. The Garnet picked up more points in the event with a victory in the consolation heat. Benton Greenberg, Dylan Ling, Andrew Hendrickson and Luke Magnuson outraced the Bullets with a time of 1:23.66.  

- Williams-Tracy won silver in the 400 IM with a program record of 3:59.61. The senior swam below the previous conference and championship record, while recording the first sub-four minute mark in program history. Mateo Smith (4:04.87), Dylan Herink (4:05.40) and Omar Ebied (4:11.40)  also earned a place in the championship heat to contribute key points for the Garnet. Smith led the trio with a fourth-place finish, while Herink and Ebied placed sixth and eighth, respectively. Smith's swim ranked seventh all-time in program history. Jacob Sherman (4:07.15) also battled to win the consolation heat in a championship where every point matters. 

- After breaking his Centennial Conference 100 butterfly record in the prelims, Wilson toppled his record once more with a time of 47.52 in the championship final. The junior swam under the NCAA B cut in both races, while claiming his second individual gold of the meet. Tipton took bronze in the event with a time of 49.35 and moved into fourth all-time in program history. Magnuson (49.56), Ling (50.48) and Timothy Fan (50.71) also qualified for the championship race to run up Swarthmore's team score. Magnuson was fourth, while Ling and Fan rounded out the field in seventh and eighth. Magnuson moved up to seventh all-time in program history. 

- Castle returned to the top of the podium with his second individual victory of the meet. The sophomore finished under the NCAA B cut in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:38.92. Hendrickson (1:44.08) also swam in the finals with an eighth-place effort, while Greenberg (1:42.83) won the consolation heat. 

- Griscavage won bronze in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.78. Ling joined his teammate in the championship heat with a seventh-place finish at 57.80. 

- Wilson nearly won his second gold of the night, but settled for silver in the 100 backstroke. The junior touched at 49.58 to finish a few tenths-of-a-second behind Gettysburg. Tipton finished sixth in the event with a 51.26 effort. 

UP NEXT
The Garnet look to close out tomorrow's Centennial Championships with the final two sessions. The morning session begins at 10:00 a.m. with the championship finale slated for 6:00 p.m.
