Men’s Swimming Sweeps Session Three Gold, Wilson Sets Program Record

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swimming team won every event on the second night of the Centennial Championships. The men's and women's teams became the first duo in recent history to sweep every gold medal in a session at the Centennial Championships. 

Ham Williams-Tracy, Danny Castle and Cami Wilson all won individual gold. Williams-Tracy and Castle both earned their first collegiate gold medals for an individual event. Wilson also captured his first gold in the 50 freestyle after finishing as the runner-up in his first two seasons. The junior set a program record in the event and combined for two gold medals on the evening. 

The Garnet sit in second place behind Gettysburg after the opening six events. The Bullets lead with 321 points, while Swarthmore is a narrow second with 303 points. Franklin & Marshall sits in the distance with 194 points. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- Williams-Tracy won gold in the 500 freestyle after earning the top seed in the event. Williams-Tracy touched at 4:31.60 to set a new lifetime best and improve to third all-time in program history. The Garnet have dominated the event with five-straight, gold-medal finishes at the championships, while Williams-Tracy secured his first-collegiate individual gold. Andrew Hendrickson (4:39.60) finished sixth in the event, while Mateo Smith (4:40.09) followed in seventh. Smith also cracked the program's top-10 with the tenth fastest mark in school history. 

- Sam Peterson won the 500 freestyle consolation final with a time of 4:38.31. The junior entered the program's all-time leaderboard with the sixth-fastest mark. 

-  Castle chased down a gold medal with an exciting finish in the 200 IM. The sophomore captured his first individual gold with a time of 1:50.11 to narrowly overtake Gettysburg and finish below the NCAA B cut. Last season, Castle placed second overall behind three-time champion Andrew Karpenko.The Garnet have now won the event in four-consecutive seasons. Dylan Herink (1:52.03) joined Castle on the podium with a bronze medal, while Omar Ebied finished eighth (1:54.18) in the championship heat. Herink's swim ranks sixth in program history. 

- Swarthmore earned big-time points in the 50 freestyle with Wilson and Cole Griscavage taking gold and silver, respectively. Wilson touched first with a program record of 20.32 from lane one, while top-seeded Griscavage followed with a 20.77 mark. Wilson claimed his first victory in the event after finishing as the runner-up in his first two seasons. Griscavage also made tremendous gains in the event after winning last year's consolation final. The senior raced to a time of 20.76 in the prelims to post the program's sixth-fastest mark. 

- The Garnet closed out the night with a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Levi Tipton, Dylan Ling, Wilson and Griscavage touched at 3:18.48 to beat Gettysburg. Griscavage closed the race with an incredible 44.40 split to secure the win. Tipton earned his first collegiate medal in the event. 

UP NEXT
The Garnet return to the pool tomorrow at 10:00 am for the morning session of the Centennial Conference Championships. The team will look to add to its medal count in the night session at 6:00 pm.
