Bredbenner competes in 400mm dash

Women’s Track & Field Opens Indoor Slate at Diplomat Open

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's track & field team kicked off its indoor campaign at the Diplomat Open on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gabby Bredbenner impressed in her collegiate debut, placing inside the top-five in the 400m dash. The rookie claimed fourth overall with a finish of 1:02.79. Alyson Goldbacher competed in the same heat, finishing at 1:06.08 for eighth place. 

- Bredbenner wrapped up her evening with another top-five effort in the 200m run. The rookie was fifth overall with a time of 27.03. 

- Tate Garcia advanced to the finals in the weight throw, placing fifth overall with a top throw of 13.20m. Garcia recorded her best measurement on her first throw, and had her first three attempts all eclipse 13.00m. The senior was the only competitor in the top-five to avoid a foul. 

- Garcia captured a second top-five finish to wrap up a successful opening meet. The senior thrower was fourth overall in the shot put with a 11.49m effort. First-year Aislinn Comerford joined the senior in the finals, recording a top distance of 10.28m on her last attempt of the evening. Lydia Morris-Kliment also excelled in the shot put with a 9.73m personal record, grabbing 18th overall. 

- Goldbacher earned her second top-10 finish of the meet with the sixth-overall spot in the pole vault, clearing a top height of 2.90m. 

- Morgan McErlean finished eighth in the mile. The senior clocked in at 5:52.53 to earn a spot inside the event's top-10.

- Kate Reiter earned eighth overall in the high jump with a top height of 1.42m. She cleared her first four marks on her first attempt. Reiter and Rebekah Gendler also took 11th and 13th in the long jump. Reiter tied with another competitor at 4.72m, while Gendler recorded a personal record of 4.70m.
