SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College cross country program had one team and one individual qualify for the NCAA National Championships, announced on Sunday afternoon. The women's cross country team qualified as a team for the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history, while
Cohen Manges will represent the men's team for the third-straight season.
The women punched its ticket to the NCAA Championships with a team victory at yesterday's NCAA Metro Regionals. Six Garnet runners finished in the top-35 to garner All-Region recognition, the most for the squad in the past 15 years.
Olivia Montini led the way with a 10th-place finish, followed by
Elizabeth Page,
Ania Wong,
Charlotte Martin,
Téa Malone-Bonacci, and
Aaliyah Anaskevich.
Rica Eleches-Lipsitz rounded out the squad's top-seven, finishing 49
th overall with a personal record of 23:34.7.
Manges secured a spot in the NCAA Championships with a fifth-place finish at the Metro Regionals. The junior matched his best regional finish, while securing all-region status and an NCAA Championship invite for the third-straight season. The men's team placed second overall at the regional meet, but did not earn an at-large selection to nationals.
Montini will cap off her Swarthmore cross country career with her fourth-straight NCAA Championship appearance. She is the first Swarthmore female competitor to qualify for the NCAA Championships in all four seasons of cross country.
This year's championship race will be held in Spartanburg, S.C on November 22.
