GREENWOOD, Ind. – Four Swarthmore College men's track & field athletes garnered College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors this week.
Sam Brody,
Colin DeLaney,
Gabriel Hines, and
Aiden Tomov were all named to the squad for the first time. To be eligible for Academic All-District accolades, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, produced a top-50 performance in the region in an individual event, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better. The Academic All-District Team is part of the Academic All-America program, which is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across college sports.
Brody earned USTFCCCA All-Metro Region accolades in the 10,000 meters (outdoor). He placed fourth in the event at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships. In addition, Brody won the 800 meters at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational and the 5000 meters at the Ursinus Festival.
DeLaney ran on Swarthmore's winning 4x800 meter relay at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships for All-Centennial First Team honors. He was part of the Garnet's second-place distance medley relay at the Centennial Indoor Championships for All-Centennial Second Team accolades. DeLaney was named USTFCCCA All-Metro Region in the 3000 meter steeplechase (outdoor) and distance medley relay (indoor). He broke the school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 3:15.99 at the Widener Final Qualifier.
Hines won the Centennial Conference indoor title in the pole vault with a school-record height of 15' 1" (4.60m) and earned All-Centennial First Team honors. He was also chosen USTFCCCA All-Metro Region in the pole vault (indoor). Hines recorded three top-8 finishes in the pole vault between the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Tomov ran on Swarthmore's winning 4x800 meter relay at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships for All-Centennial First Team honors. He was part of the Garnet's second-place distance medley relay at the Centennial Indoor Championships for All-Centennial Second Team accolades and also took third in the 800 meters for All-Centennial Honorable Mention. Tomov was named USTFCCCA All-Metro Region in the distance medley relay (indoor) and is a school-record holder in the event.
