Women’s XC Finishes Second at Regionals, Montini Headlines Four All-Metro Selections

GALLOWAY, NJ - The Swarthmore College women's cross country team placed second overall out of 25 teams at the NCAA Metro Regionals on Saturday afternoon.

Four runners raced to All-Metro honors to lead the Garnet to their second runner-up finish in three years. Olivia Montini qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third-straight season with a ninth-place finish to garner All-Metro status. Ania Wong, Elizabeth Page and Alina Irvine also took home medals as they placed inside the top-35 to earn All-Metro distinction.

The Garnet will await their fate tomorrow as they hope to secure one of 22 at-large bids after placing second in the region.


HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montini raced to a ninth-place finish to claim the final individual qualifying spot and clinch her third-straight National Championship appearance. The junior crossed the finish line at 22:20.6 to beat out her first-year teammates, who followed in 10th and 11th, respectively. Montini logged an average mile of 5:59.

- Wong finished 10-seconds behind Montini to place 10th overall. The first-year garnered All-Metro status in her NCAA Regional debut with a time of 22:30.9. She clocked an average pace of 6:02. 

- Page followed closely behind Wong with a time of 22:37.1 to grab 11th overall and secure All-Metro status. The first-year ran a 6:04 pace. 

- Irvine claimed the team's fourth All-Metro nod with a 17th place effort. The senior raced to a time of 23:11.2 to earn her third-career All-Metro selection. Irvine ran an average mile of 6:13. 

- Téa Malone-Bonacci finished 41st overall with a time of 23:54.5 to earn crucial points for the Garnet. The sophomore set a new personal record in the 6k race. 

- Aaliyah Anaskevich and Sophie Goodwin rounded out the team's top-seven. Anaskevich finished 54th overall (24:22.0), while Goodwin placed 58th (24:27.0). Anaskevich's time marked a new personal record for the first-year.
