COLLEGEVILLE, PA. - Competing at the second day of the Centennial Conference Championships, the Swarthmore men's track and field team posted excellent results, including three medals, one gold.
Taking on the other eight Centennial squads, the Garnet fielded athletes in twelve events, including: Discus Throw, Long Jump, High Jump, Decathlon, 3000m Steeplechase, 110m Hurdles, 400m, 100m, 800m, 400m Hurdles, 200m and 4x800m Relay.
With day two coming to a close, the Garnet are in third place with 37 points, trailing just Ursinus College and Johns Hopkins University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Field:
- Taking on the long jump, first year
Rishi Tella captured a silver medal, placing second with a mark of 6.85m.
Track:
- Bringing home the Garnet's second silver of the day, sophomore
Colin DeLaney finished second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:22.81, a new personal best.
- Competing in the 110mH prelims, first year
Jeremy Amankwah just barely missed out on qualifying for tomorrow's final, placing ninth with a time of 17.86 seconds.
- Four members of the Garnet finished top twenty in the 800m prelims, with senior
Keyan Shayegan placing 12th, sophomore
Ben Rosin 13th, sophomore
Robert Mirabello 16th and senior
Kendall Praitis-Hill 20th.
- Capturing Swarthmore's only men's gold on the day, the Garnet placed first in the 4x800m relay, as the quartet of sophomore
Matthew Gutow, senior
Jonah Ring, senior
Ethan Rothenberg and senior
Aidan Cantine put up a time of 7:43.98.
