CHESTER, PA. - Taking on day two of the Widener University Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 22, the Swarthmore men's track & field team put up stellar results, finishing 12th of 28 teams.
Competing against over 50 other teams, including Centennial rivals Haverford College and Ursinus College, the Garnet fielded athletes in eight events, including the 1500m, 100m, 800m, 200m, 10000m, Hammer Thrown, Pole Vault and Javelin.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Starting off the day on the track, first year
Gabriel Hines led a trio of Garnet athletes in the 100m, finishing 18th with a time of 11.34 seconds. Behind him, first year
Rishi Tella placed 39th at 11.71, while first year
Guillaume Robert crossed the finish line in 73rd at 12.49.
- Robert also represented Swarthmore in the 200m, finishing 74th with a time of 25.22 seconds.
- The 800m open saw four members of the Garnet finish in the top 50. Senior
Jonah Ring led the way in 28th with a time of 1:57.87, while sophomore
Matthew Gutow finished 29th, senior
Keyan Shayegan 43rd, and senior
Kendall Praitis-Hill 46th.
- First year
Ethan Liang placed 61st in the 1500m with a time of 4:49.66.
- Notching the Garnet's best finish of the day in track events, first year
Howard Wang placed 11th in the 10000m, putting up a time of 35:44.54.
- Moving to field events, senior
Julio Del Cid placed 25th in the hammer throw with his mark of 30.53m.
- Senior
Xavier Serrano led the way for Swarthmore in the javelin, posting a mark of 51.19m, good enough for fourth place and a new personal best. Teammate junior
Bastiaan Phair placed 14th with his mark of 39.24m.
- A multi-event athlete, Tella also had a day in the long jump, placing 6th with a mark of 6.52m.
- Rounding out the meet, Hines had an excellent outing in the pole vault, finishing second with his best height of 4.45m.
