Box Score PASADENA, Ca. - Suffering their first loss of spring break, the No. 28 Swarthmore men's tennis team fell to No. 16 Caltech on Tuesday, Mar. 7th by a score of 5-4.
The Garnet found one doubles win, going into singles play down 2-1. Despite tying the match at 3-all thanks to excellent singles performances, Swarthmore could not close out the competition, falling to the Beavers 5-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Despite the duo of sophomore
Graham Hadesman/first year
Utham Koduri being unable to capture a win in the No.1 seeded match, falling 8-3, the pair of first year
Andres Fente/sophomore
Max Pogorelov came out on top in the No.3 match, taking the contest 8-4 and tying the match at 1-all.
- However, the duo of first year
Michael Melnikov/junior
Rushil Patel were beaten in the No.2 seeded match 8-5, giving the Garnet a 2-1 deficit going into singles play.
Singles:
- Looking to set the tone early in the singles matchups, Melnikov exploded out of the gate for the Garnet in the No.2 seeded match, taking down his opponent 6-2, 6-0 and tying the match at 2-all.
- While the Beavers took back the lead following a win in the No.4 match, junior
Charley Force tied the contest back up at 3-all, seizing a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No.1 match.
- Unfortunately, the Garnet could not maintain their momentum, falling in a grueling three-set No.6 match by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, and then sealing their defeat following a 6-1, 1-6, 5-2 loss in the No.5 match.

Max Lindstrom pulled out an impressive 5-7, 7-6, 10-2 win in the No.3 match to close out the day, reaching the final score of Caltech five, Swarthmore four.
