Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. - Putting up a fight against one of the top teams in the country, the No.28 Swarthmore men's tennis team fell to No.9 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges by a score of 6-1 on Thursday, Mar. 9th.
Despite battling hard, the Garnet could not capture a win in doubles play, dropping all three close matches. While Swarthmore were able to put their first point on the board following the No.1 singles match, that would prove their only win of the afternoon, ultimately losing 6-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Competing well in doubles play, the Garnet forced two of three matches past the standard six points, with the duos of first year
Utham Koduri/sophomore
Graham Hadesman and sophomore
Max Pogorelov/first year
Andres Fente ultimately falling by scores of 7-5 and 7-6 respectively.
- However, unable to capture an outright win, the Garnet went into singles down 1-0.
Singles:
- First year
Michael Melnikov exploded out of the gate for the Garnet to kick off singles play, taking the No.1 seeded match in a dominant 6-1,6-2 win.
- Unfortunately, Melnikov's success would prove to be the last Swarthmore win of the day. Despite first year
Max Lindstrom (6-0, 6-7, 7-6), sophomore
Kevin Jiang (6-3, 4-6, 7-6) and first year
Lalith Suresh (2-6, 6-1, 7-5) all pushing their matches to three extremely competitive sets, none of the three could capture a victory, with the Garnet ultimately falling 6-1.
