Ebied Sets Pool Record in 400 IM to Highlight Swarthmore Invitational

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swimming team wrapped up their home schedule and regular season slate with the Swarthmore Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Garnet swam against competitors from Franklin & Marshall, Shippensburg and Bryn Mawr. 

Omar Ebied headlined the weekend for the Garnet with a pool record in the 400 IM on Saturday. He moved into ninth all-time in the event, while also moving into ninth all-time in the 200 IM.

Benton Greenberg and Grant Himes also posted all-time marks. Greenberg achieved top-10 times in the 100 and 200 freestyle, while Himes had all-time swims for the 1000 and 1650 freestyle. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ebied had a phenomenal weekend for the Garnet as he earned four lifetime bests, a pair of top-10 all-time swims and set a pool record. Ebied posted a time of 4:09.35 in the 400 IM to break the pool record and move into ninth all-time on Swarthmore's leaderboard. He also moved into ninth all-time in the 200 IM (1:55.48), while adding lifetime bests in the 50 backstroke and 200 breaststroke. 

- Greenberg earned a pair of all-time swims in the 100 (46.24) and 200 (1:42.76) freestyles to move into the top-10 all-time in both events. He also added a season-best in the 50 freestyle. 

- Himes moved into eighth all-time in program history with a 1000 freestyle split in the 1650 freestyle. The sophomore was also 10th all-time in the 1650 freestyle with a lifetime-best mark of 16:32.24. 

- Hayden Brown swam lifetime bests in the 200 butterfly (1:56.95) and 500 freestyle (4:48.21). The junior also earned a lifetime-best 50 free split on the freestyle relay.

- John Grey Crosby swam three lifetime bests on the weekend. He recorded personal-best times in the 100 (47.49) and 200 (1:45.36) freestyles. He also recorded a lifetime best for the 50 free (21.73) on the opening leg of the 200 freestyle relay. Fellow senior Jonathan Odim also recorded lifetime bests in the 50 freestyle (21.79) and 100 butterfly (52.72). 

- Will Trone earned four lifetime bests on the weekend. The first-year set personal marks in the 100 breaststroke (59.22), 200 IM (1:59.18), 200 backstroke (1:58.65) and 200 breaststroke (2:12.69). 

- Luke Magnuson recorded lifetime bests in the 200 freestyle (1:45.25) and 100 butterfly (51.90). Fellow first-year Nicholas Zuk also swam to a lifetime best in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.38).
