BOSTON - Swarthmore College junior
Clay Conley garnered All-American honors for the first time by placing seventh in the shot put on Saturday afternoon at the Division III National Championships with a throw of 13.66 meters (44 feet 9.75 inches).
Conley, the 13th All-American in Garnet women's track & field history, won gold at the Centennial Conference Championships on Feb. 23 with a Swarthmore indoor record heave of 13.98m.
Senior Erica Oawster of Wisconsin-Eau Claire University took first place at 14.77m. Conley was just 0.02m behind the fifth-place finisher.
Conley, also a 2019 Centennial gold medalist in the weight throw, will now shift any attention to the outdoor season. The rest of the Swarthmore team is currently in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the start of the spring season at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
