LEHIGH, Pa.—Challenging a field full of Division I, II and III teams, Swarthmore College Women's Cross Country finished in 18th place out of 44 teams at the Paul Short Brown 6K on the campus of Lehigh University Saturday afternoon.
With a score order of 44, 55, 77, 131, and 218, Swarthmore tallied 525 points. On average, the team recorded a time of 22:40. The spread of time between Swarthmore's top time and fifth time was just 1:38.7. Swarthmore was ninth among Division III teams.
Once again, junior Emma Novak led the Garnet to the finish line, crossing first with a time of 22:03.8 and an average mile time of 5:54.9.
Eight seconds separated Novak and Swarthmore's next finisher, Phoebe Whiteside. Whiteside's 22:11.6 earned Swarthmore 55 points. The team's third sub-100 score came from Nora Blodgett who ran the course in 22:27.8 and recorded a score of 77.
Classmate Rose Teszler netted the fourth score for Swarthmore by registering a time of 22:53.4. First-year Emmaline Dagget cracked the Garnet's top-five with a time of 23:42.4. Swarthmore's sixth and seventh times came in quick succession from Tillie Ferguson (23:46.4) and Ella Shenkar (23:47.1).
Swarthmore, the region's fifth-ranked team, has another tough test ahead. The Garnet run at the Rowan Border Battle on Oct. 19 against another highly competitive field.
