Borbee Named Tewaaraton Legend

(Watch Karen Borbee's speech)
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse head coach Karen (Emas) Borbee was recognized this spring as the recipient of the 2019 Tewaaraton Legends Award.

The Tewaaraton Legends Award, is awarded to one male and female honoree each year who were at the top of the game collegiately before the Tewaaraton Award was established in 2001. The Tewaaraton Legend Award was first given in 2011 to star athlete Jim Brown.

Borbee, a three-time All-American and national champion at the University of Delaware, appears all over the NCAA's Division I record book and still is on top of the goals per game category (4.65) after recording 256 goals in 55 games. She led Delaware to a combined 60-9-1 record while playing there from 1981-84.

Borbee has coached 26 seasons as the head women's lacrosse coach at Swarthmore.

She received her award at the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on May 31 at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
