HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Swarthmore College Men's Indoor Track & Field scored the most points of six teams to open its 2018-19 season at the Haverford Holiday Meet on Saturday.
Led by first-place finishes from senior
Benjamin Hejna in the long jump, senior
Daniel Belkin in the triple jump and senior
Ryan Marrone in the shot put, the Garnet compiled 133.5 points in the meet.
Swarthmore senior
Robert Eppley also tied the school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 9.07 seconds, finishing in second place at the meet.
Freshman Triston Alston, junior
Vaughn Parts and sophomore
Judah Raab had perhaps the best showings of the Swarthmore underclassmen. Alston placed third in the triple jump at 11.60 meters, Parts took third in the in 5,000-meter run in 15:30.88, and Raab got third in the 400-meter run at 53.96 seconds.
Hejna's winning mark in the long jump was 6.59 meters. He got second to Belkin's 13.46-meter distance in the triple jump with a 13.23 mark for himself.
Marrone threw the shot 14.44 meters to take first, and his senior teammate
Jared Hunt got second with a 14.02-meter throw.
The team's next meet is the Coach I Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., on Saturday, Jan. 12.
