Men's Tennis Gets Stopped By Hopkins In Title Match

BALTIMORE--No. 31 Swarthmore College Men's Tennis returned to the Centennial Conference Championship on Sunday for a re-match with No. 14 Johns Hopkins University. The Garnet battled and had several close matches with the Blue Jays but ultimately fell 5-0.
 
Johns Hopkins has now won the Centennial Championship 11 straight seasons.

John Larkina and Blake Oetting played the tightest doubles match of the day taking six games in the 8-6 loss. Ari Cepelewicz and Thomas Vernier's match at No. 2 doubles went down 8-5, and Mark Fallati and Josh Powell dropped No. 1 doubles 8-2.

In singles, Ari Cepelewicz's No. 5 match ended 6-3, 6-1 and Michael Song fell 6-3, 7-5 in sixth singles.

In the top singles flight, Fallati won his first set 6-0, but dropped the next set 6-2. He led in the third set 2-1 when the match concluded. John Larkin fell 6-4 in the first set of second singles but rallied to take the next set 6-1. In fourth singles, Josh Powell forced a tiebreak game in set one but fell 7-4 in the breaker.

Swarthmore wraps up the season with a 12-12 record and graduates seniors James Chen, John Larkin and Thomas Vernier.
