BOX SCORESWARTHMORE, Pa.–With four players securing double wins, the 31st-ranked Swarthmore College men's tennis team (1-1) bounced back with an 8-1 victory over New York University on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Junior
John Larkin and sophomore
Blake Oetting claimed the first team point, handling Samuel Khoshbin and Shrikar Kundur, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore
Ari Cepelewicz and freshman
Simon Vernier followed with an 8-5 win at No. 2 over Matt DiMichiel and Yanik Parsch. Completing the sweep at No. 1 by an identical score, sophomores
Mark Fallati and
Josh Powell defeated Benedict Teoh and Sammy Aronson.
The Garnet's dominance continued into singles play. Larkin easily took down Khoshbin at No. 2 by a score of 6-0, 6-1, and Fallati soon clinched the match for Swarthmore at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Teoh. Cepelewicz pushed his match at No. 3 versus DiMichiel, winning 7-5, 7-6 (1), while No. 4 Vernier also notched a win, 6-3, 6-4, over Jiri Honajzer. Rounding out the lineup, sophomore
Michael Song surrendered only one game to Aronson in his 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 6.
Swarthmore will next take on nationally-ranked California Lutheran University on
Saturday, March 5 in Washington State over spring break.
