Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Paced by a balanced scoring attack, Dickinson handed the Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team an 18-11 loss on Saturday, Apr. 18 at Clothier Field.
The Red Devils had five players record multiple goals and three find the back of the net at least three times to win a pivotal Centennial Conference match between the two schools. Elizbaeth Sitko scored four goals, while Jennifer Morrissey added three and also tallied an assist. Senior
Elyse Tierney led the Swarthmore offense with three goals. Freshmen
Taylor Chiang and
Shivani Chinnappan set career highs by netting two goals apiece.
The teams traded goals early, as Dickinson's Morrissey opened up the scoring at the 26:11 mark before senior
Sara Lentricchia answered with 22:09 on the clock. Dickinson, however, netted three unassisted tallies in a row and led for the rest of the game.
After Dickinson (7-6, CC 3-4) took its largest lead of the game on a Caroline Clancy strike that made it 16-7 midway through the second half, Swarthmore fought hard to claw back and came within six on a Tierney goal with 2:28 left. The nine-goal deficit, however, was too much for the Garnet to overcome. Katie Barton put an exclamation point on the win for the Red Devils by netting the game's final marker with two seconds left.
Dickinson outshot Swarthmore 38-26 and had a 25-18 advantage in the ground game. The Red Devils also forced the Garnet to commit 20 turnovers, while a stifling defense only allowed the hosts to be successful on half of their clear attempts. JoJo Auerbach picked up the victory in net for Dickinson by making five saves in the first half, while junior
Connie Bowen suffered the loss after making nine stops.
Swarthmore (7-7, CC 2-5) travels to Washington College on Wednesday, Apr. 22 at 7 p.m.
