No. 11 Johns Hopkins Hands Men's Tennis First Conference Loss

Mark Fallati fought hard, but fell in three sets at second singles.

BALTIMORE - In a battle for first place in the Centennial Conference, the 27th-ranked Swarthmore College men's tennis team (9-5, CC 5-1) fell to No. 11 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, Apr. 15th.  Down 3-0 after doubles, the Garnet men challenged the Blue Jays in singles, but ultimately suffered their first conference loss by a score of 9-0.   

Freshmen Mark Fallati and Ari Cepelewicz fought at No. 1 doubles against Jeremy Dubin and Noah Joachim, but fell 8-4. Freshmen Michael Song and Blake Oetting battled to keep it close at No. 3, but lost by an identical score to Erik Lim and Tanner Brown.

Singles play featured several tight matches.  At No. 3, Cepelewicz was narrowly defeated by Joachim in three full sets.  Down 5-2 in the third set, Cepelewicz nearly climbed back, but fell 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(5). 
 
With the match decided, Fallati's contest at No. 2 singles came down to a super tie-break. He was bested by Ben Hwang, 6-7(5), 6-0, 1-0(5).

Swarthmore will look to bounce back at Dickinson College on Saturday, Apr. 18.
