Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Senior Elyse Tierney scored four goals and won five draw controls to help propel the Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team to an 11-8 victory over Ursinus in the Centennial Conference opener for both schools on Saturday, March 21 at Clothier Field.
A back-and-forth first half featured five ties and two lead changes with neither side leading by more than a goal. Tierney opened the scoring at 24:22 to give the Garnet an early lead before Kitty Dawson set up two Bear goals just four minutes apart to temporarily put the visitors ahead. Swarthmore's
Kathryn Restrepo, however, assisted on a strike by junior
Elizabeth Upton to tie the game and then potted a free position shot to give the hosts a lead they would never relinquish.

Swarthmore, which led 6-5 at the break, scored the first two goals of the second half just 16 seconds apart to start pulling away. Restrepo and Bachman each found the back of the net at 27:16 and 27:00, respectively. Ursinus cut the deficit to one when Mary Deliberti beat junior goalkeeper
Connie Bowen low on a free position shot, but the Garnet answered back with two more goals in a row. Restrepo completed a hat trick on a free position with 6:12 remaining put the game away.

Bowen made eight saves between the pipes to earn the victory for Swarthmore. Margot Philbin of Ursinus (1-6, CC 0-1) saved 10 shots in the losing effort. Swarthmore outshot Ursinus 25-22 and won 12 of the 21 draw controls, while Ursinus held a narrow 13-12 edge in ground balls.
