LEHIGH, Pa.-
Katie Jo McMenamin won the Paul Short Brown 6K with a time of 21:23, topping a field of 387 runners on Friday afternoon. The Garnet finished in 10th overall out of the 45 NCAA Division I, II and III teams on the muddy course at Lehigh University.
McMenamin finished three seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Through one-mile, she was running nine seconds behind the leader but gained ground en route to the clear-cut victory.
Swarthmore's
Indy Reid-Shaw completed the course in 22:13, a 5:57-mile pace, to place 33rd.
Sarah Nielsen was the Garnet's third finisher with a time of 22:39.
Irina Bukharin crossed the line in 23:03, and
Kate Hannah provided the Garnet's fifth time with a 23:14.
Kenzie Himelein-Wachowiak and
Lili Tobias also ran in under 24 minutes. The two finished right near each other, coming in at 23:51 and 23:52, respectively.
The Garnet topped nationally-ranked Allegheny (No. 20) by 92 points. That should help the Garnet move back into the top-35 in the country in the USTFCCCA rankings.
Swarthmore returns to action on Oct. 17 at the Inter-Regional Border Battle in Glassboro, N.J.
