Liz Tawa's third-place performance, the Swarthmore College women's cross country team recorded a strong showing at the Bryn Mawr Invitational on Friday, Aug. 29 at Rose Tree Park. The Garnet had four student-athletes take the top six individual spots and six finish in the top 12 among 64 competitors at the non-scoring meet.
Tawa navigated the 5,000-meter circuit in 20:25.34, while junior
Katie Jo McMenamin was right behind her by hitting the tape fourth in 20:25.91. Sophomore
Indy Reid-Shaw placed fifth in 20:26 and junior
Sarah Nielsen was sixth in 20:31.09. Completing the top five for the Garnet was sophomore
Kate Hannah, who hit the tape in 21:07.86.
Eastern's Josey Rupert easily captured the individual crown by recording a blistering time of 19:46.61. The mark outdistanced Christina Smith, the runner-up finisher from Gwynedd-Mercy, by more than 31 seconds.
Swarthmore, which is currently ranked tied for 32nd nationally, will host its annual alumni meet on Saturday, Sept. 13 at noon on campus before competing in the Main Line Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 25 at Haverford.
