Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team concluded its 2014 campaign with a 16-10 loss to Haverford on Saturday, Apr. 26 at Swan Field.
Senior
Corinne Sommi put the Garnet on the board first with an unassisted tally at the 27:07 mark, but Haverford responded by scoring four consecutive goals and never trailed again. The Fords ended the half by rattling off seven unanswered and led 10-3 at the recess.
Beginning with another Sommi strike, Swarthmore attempted to rally by netting three of the first four goals in the second half. Sommi along with fellow seniors
Lucy Whitacre and
Caroline Murphy each found the back of the net to make it 11-6 with 26:35 left. Haverford, however, tallied three straight goals and eventually pulled away for the six-goal win.
Haverford (8-8, CC 4-5) outshot Swarthmore 40-26 and had a 16-7 advantage in ground balls. Diana Perry netted a game-high four goals and also won four draw controls to lead the Fords, while Sommi completed a hat trick and senior goalkeeper
Michelle Ammerman finished with 13 saves in her final game as a collegian.
Swarthmore (7-9, CC 2-7) is slated to return 15 letterwinners and eight starters next season.
