Women's Lacrosse Honors Senior Class; Fall to #7 Franklin & Marshall

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team was dealt another Centennial Conference loss from Franklin & Marshall by a 18-8 score on Saturday, April 12 from Clothier Field. 

Prior to the game, six Garnet seniors were honored for their dedication to the women's lacrosse program -  Michelle Ammerman, Caroline Murphy, Emma Sipperly, Anne Rosenblatt, Corinne Sommi and Lucy Whitacre have been key contributers to the team throughout all four years at Swarthmore.

Murphy recorded a hat trick on the day, while Sommi finished with two goals and one assist to lead the Garnet offense. Whitacre finished with one goal and led the team with six draws. 

Swarthmore's Lizzie Kolln struck first in the game at 27:14 off a behind-the-net pass from Sommi. The Diplomats responded with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead by the 21:14 mark. 

Back-to-back draws from Whitacre sparked the Garnet offense later in the first as Sommi and Kolln fired off two unassisted goals to shrink the deficit to 4-3 at 19:17. The teams would trade goals over the next seven minutes before the visitors took control, tallying six unanswered goals to finish the half with a 13-5 lead. 

The Diplomats added five goals in the second half to remain undefeated in conference action. Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Hoffman earned the victory with 10 saves in 41:01 minutes played. 

Ammerman recorded seven saves in the loss, while sophomore Connie Bowen added seven saves in the second half effort. 

Swarthmore resumes play on Wednesday, April 16 at Muhlenberg. First draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
