GRANTHAM, Pa. – Despite getting another hat trick from senior Corinne Sommi, the Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team was dealt an 18-5 loss by Messiah on Thursday, Apr. 10 at Anderson Field.

Messiah (7-6) opened the game with a four-goal outburst in less than seven minutes and never looked back. Freshman Brooke Gamble netted consecutive tallies to give the Falcons a commanding advantage at the 23:05 mark.

Sommi put the Garnet on the board with 22 minutes left on the clock, but the hosts answered right back by netting six in a row to take a 10-1 lead just past the midway point of the opening half. Senior Lizzy Keeney, who finished the game with nine points, found the back of the net again to give Messiah a 13-3 cushion and more than enough insurance to allow the Falcons to earn the victory.

Messiah outshot Swarthmore 31-13 and had a 20-15 edge in ground balls. Falcon goalkeeper Sarah Dolan made six saves between the pipes to earn the win, while senior Caroline Murphy scooped up six ground balls and caused three turnovers for the Garnet in the losing effort.

Swarthmore (6-5) resumes Centennial Conference action when it hosts #7 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, Apr. 12 at 1 p.m.
