Corinne Sommi factored into six goals for the second straight game in leading the Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team to an 11-6 win over Alvernia on Thursday, March 6 at Clothier Field. The Garnet used a balanced attack and had five players score multiple times to remain unbeaten.
After a seesaw battle that saw Alvernia (0-1) take a 3-2 lead when Julie Sutton found the back of the net on a free position shot with 12:52 on the clock, Swarthmore seized control by rattling off nine straight goals and never looked back. Senior
Emma Sipperly helped key the rally by assisting on a
Lucy Whitacre goal to give the Garnet a one-goal lead at the 2:07 mark and then scored an unassisted tally with 1:34 left to put the hosts ahead by a 5-3 score at the break.
Swarthmore continued using its balanced offense to capitalize six more times to start the second half. Sommi notched two goals and two assists over a span of 11:37 to lift the Garnet a seven-goal advantage, and senior
Caroline Murphy, who also won six draw controls, followed with a free position attempt to cap the stretch and make it 11-3 with 12:31 left.

Michelle Ammerman each played a half and made six saves apiece for the Garnet. Bowen, who was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, was credited with the win. Alvernia held a slight 23-20 advantage in shots and a 10-9 edge in draw controls. The Crusaders also scooped up 17 ground balls compared to the Garnet's 12.
Swarthmore (2-0) will look to remain undefeated when it visits Drew on Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m.
