Liam Fitzstevens had two first-place finishes in individual events and also swam on a pair of winning relays as the Swarthmore College men's swimming team placed first among six schools at the Swarthmore Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Ware Pool.
Fitzstevens placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.63 seconds and took first in the 200 backstroke as well, finishing in 1:58.99. He also teamed up with freshman
Alejandro Hernandez, sophomore
Andrew Steele, and freshman
Carlo Sivilotti for a 1:41.02 first place win in the 200 medley relay, and freshman
Jason Fu, freshman
Ben Hsiung, and sophomore Steve Sekula in the 800 freestyle relay for another win with a time of 7:24.75.
Rounding out the list of top performers for the Garnet were freshman
CJ Cling and sophomore Steve Sekula. Cling took first in the 400 individual medley, finishing at 4:26.05, and Sekula won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.74.
Swarthmore College won the meet with 928.5 points, and Salisbury University came in second with 827.5 points. Cabrini College (429), Lycoming College (374), and Ocean Country College (295), and Fashion Institute of Technology (161) rounded out the team scoring.
Swarthmore will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 6 when it swims at Ursinus College at 6 p.m.
