Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Molly Phillips converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute to lift Gettysburg to a 1-0 victory over the Swarthmore College women's soccer team on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Clark Field.
Both Gettysburg (7-3-1, CC 3-0-1) and Swarthmore (7-4, CC 2-3) took two shots off target during the first period, resulting in a 0-0 tie at halftime. The Garnet found opportunities during the second half, which included a shot on goal in the 78th minute by freshman
Sarah Hancock that was saved by Gettysburg goalkeeper Eliza Gray.
Soon afterwards, Phillips' penalty kick found the back of the net for the lone marker of the match.
Mele Johnson attempted to even the score during the 86th minute with a shot on goal, but Gray made a key save to solidify Gettysburg's win.
Junior goalkeeeper
Caela Long of Swarthmore made two saves, while Gray also redirected two shots for Gettysburg.
Swarthmore returns home to face Ursinus College on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
