No. 13 Women’s Soccer Wins Fourth-Straight in Regular Season Finale, Ends Conference Play Unbeaten

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 13 Swarthmore College women's soccer team won its fourth-straight game with a 2-1 triumph over Haverford College on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet finish as the second seed in the Centennial Tournament, hosting a semifinals matchup on Thursday.

Charlotte Carleton and Celia Kanellakos both scored for the Garnet, tallying their seventh and fifth goals of the season, respectively. Carleton opened the scoring in the 11th minute, while Kanellakos tacked on a penalty-kick goal in the 36th minute. With today's goal, Kanellakos reached the 50-career point milestone.

Sofie Aird made one save in another winning effort for the keeper. Her lone blemish was a penalty-kick goal that she made an outstanding effort on.

Swarthmore outplayed the Fords with a 18-5 shot advantage and a 10-3 edge in corners. The Garnet also registered nine shots on target, while allowing just two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore created some early opportunities for themselves on offense. The always-dangerous Ava Gizzie had a shot saved in the eighth minute before Carleton netted the game's first goal in the 11th minute. Liesel Blau led Carleton with an outstanding feed, while Carleton touched the ball perfectly past the keeper to take a 1-0 lead.

- The Garnet remained on the attack with a couple shots on target from Carleton and Blau. The first attempt was stopped by a team save, while the second was denied by the keeper. Haverford earned a penalty kick in the 29th minute, and snuck the ball past a diving Aird, who made an excellent effort on the attempt.

- The Garnet added a go-ahead score before the half to take a 2-1 advantage. Anwen Reed was taken down inside the box to earn the attempt, while Kanellakos cashed in on the opportunity in the 36th minute.

- Kanellakos had a shot saved in the 48th minute before Aird responded with a stop at the other end. The Garnet then tilted momentum further in their favor, firing off the next eight shot attempts. Haverford generated a couple shots late in regulation, but were unable to get any quality chances against a stellar Swarthmore back line.
