HAVERFORD, Pa. - Emma Saarel '14 of the Swarthmore College women's cross country team led the Garnet runners at the Main Line Invitational Thursday evening hosted by Haverford College.
Saarel - also the top Garnet finisher at the Bryn Mawr College Invite in early September - paced the three-mile course in 17:50.72 for a top-twenty finish in a field of 86 runners. Saarel knocked off 50 seconds from her course finish last season.
Sophomore Katie McMenamin clocked in at 18:08.74 and was followed closely behind by classmate Sarah Nielsen at 18:14.29. Freshmen Natalie McLaughlin and Indy Reid-Shaw crossed the line together to round out Swarthmore's top-five finishers.
The annual race features runners from area schools Villanova, Penn, La Salle, Gwynedd-Mercy and host Haverford.
Swarthmore continues tuning for the Centennial Conference championships with an upcoming trip to the Lehigh University Paul Short Run on October 5.
