Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. –
Michael Stewart scored his second goal of the fall and
Peter Maxted made five saves as the Swarthmore men's soccer team played Richard Stockton to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Clothier Field.
Swarthmore (4-0-2) got on the board early in the 12th minute when
Michael Stewart took a cross from
Jake Weiner and unleashed a shot from the top of the box that was buried into the back of the net. But shortly after
Peter Maxted made an acrobatic save to keep the Garnet ahead, Richard Stockton (4-1-2) was able to net the equalizer in the 86th minute. Chris Katona redirected a pass from Anthony Colofranson that landed in the far post to force extra time.
The Garnet outshot the Ospreys, 4-2, in the overtime session and nearly twice in the waning minutes. However, a header attempt by
David Geschwind and a high shot by
Joe Keedy were unsuccessful, forcing the teams to settle for the draw.
Maxted of Swarthmore turned away five of the 13 shots he faced, while Richard Stockton's Bob Millar made two saves on 17 opportunities.
Swarthmore opens up Centennial Conference play when it hosts Johns Hopkins on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.
