Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 5 Gettysburg, 13-8

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Swarthmore women's lacrosse team (7-3, 2-2 CC) fought a tough Centennial Conference opponent in No. 5 Gettysburg College (10-1, 4-0 CC), dropping its second straight game by a 13-8 score on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Annalise Penikis led the Garnet scorers with three goals and two assists, while senior Nicole Vanchieri and junior Corinne Sommi each tallied twice for Swarthmore. 

The Bullets scored the game's first three goals on the day, with senior Lindsey Robinson netting first and sophomore Bridget Kenny netting the next two goals.

Swarthmore tallied its first of the contest with a goal from senior Beth Martin off an assist from Penikis at 23:04 - also tallying for the Garnet in the first frame.

The Bullets closed out the half with four more goals, making it 6-2 at the break.

The second half began as the first did, with three straight goals from Gettysburg. Two goals from junior Lauren Pruitt got things going, and Robinson contributed another, her third of the day to give her a hat-trick.

The Garnet fought back, outscoring the Bullets 6-4 the rest of the game. Two goals each from Vanchieri and Sommi led the way, while Penikis added two of her own in the second half, bringing her total to three on the afternoon.

Freshman Connie Bowen, in net for 38:47, made eight saves on the day to lead all Garnet goalies. In 16:00 minutes of playing time, freshman Christine McGinn made two stops for Swarthmore. 

Lindsay Clinton in 54:12 minutes of action made three stops for the Bullets and Caroline Gordon finished the game in net with two saves. 

The Garnet look to right the ship in a non-conference contest Thrusday, April 11 at Neumann. The first draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
