SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 26 Swarthmore College men's tennis team (10-8, 6-2) clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs with a convincing 9-0 victory over Washington College on Wednesday afternoon from the Faulkner Courts.
Senior Malik Mubeen, senior James Wieler, junior Anthony Collard and sophomore Max Sacks won multiple matches for the Garnet.
Swarthmore set the tone early with three solid victories in doubles play. Sacks and junior Max Kaye won at No. 1 doubles 8-6 over the Shoremen's Vishnu Rajes and Marc Cywinski. Collard and Mubeen paired up to win at No. 2 doubles (8-4) while junior Christian Carcione and senior James Wieler closed it out with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Garnet continued its dominance in singles. Collard won at No. 1 easily (6-1, 6-1), followed by strong showings from Sacks (6-0, 6-1) and junior Preston Poon at No. 2 and No. 3. The closest match came at No. 4, where sophomore Irving Stone rallied to win 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Mubeen and Wieler finished off the match with wins at No. 5 and No. 6.
Swarthmore closes out its regular season at rival Haverford on Saturday in a match that will determine the No. 3 seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming Centennial playoffs.
