LANCASTER, Pa. - Powered by a pair of wins at doubles and victories at the top half of singles, Franklin & Marshall (7-7, 4-1) upset the No. 26 Swarthmore College men's tennis team (7-7, 3-2) by a score of 6-3 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
Junior Max Kaye was the Garnet's lone double-winner on the day, teamming with sophomore Max Sacks to win at No. 1 doubles (8-5) while also winning at No. 4 singles in three sets ( 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8)) over F&M's Doug Kaplan. Senior Malik Mubeen earned the Garnet's other point with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.
The Dips went ahead 2-1 following doubles and then pulled out the upset with a strong showing in singles. In a battle of two of the Mid-Atlantic region's top players, F&M's Ross Silverberg topped Anthony Collard 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. The Diplomats also took singles No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 to finish off the 6-3 win.
Swarthmore looks to get back on track Tuesday at Gettysburg.
