SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 23 Swarthmore College men's tennis (4-6, 1-1) team claimed a key win at No. 1 doubles, but it wasn't enough to propel it to victory over No. 8 Johns Hopkins, as the Blue Jays won 7-2 on Saturday afternoon from the Faulkner Courts.
Junior Max Kaye and sophomore Max Sacks paired up to win at No. 1 doubles (8-6) over Hopkins' Nicholas Garcia and Noah Joachim. The Blue Jays claimed the other two doubles matches -- both by scores of 8-1 -- to take a 2-1 lead heading into the singles competition.
In singles, the talented Jays pulled ahead, winning the first five singles matches. Senior James Wieler was the Garnet's lone winner in singles play, taking the first set over Hopkins' Jensen Reiter 6-0 before he was forced to retire.
Swarthmore returns to Centennial Conference action on Tuesday at Muhlenberg (5:00 p.m.).
