Men’s Swimming in Second Place After First Day of Swarthmore Invitational

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Samuel Tomlinson factored into a pair of top-three finishes to help lead the Swarthmore College men's swimming team to a second-place standing among five scoring schools after the first session of the Swarthmore Invitational on Friday, Nov. 22 at the Ware Pool.

Tomlinson finished second individually in the 50-yard freestyle by hitting the wall in a blistering 22.35 seconds. He also anchored the third-place 200-yard freestyle relay that posted a third-place mark of 1:30.41 to start the evening. He was joined by freshman Stephen Sekula, junior Max Krackow and freshman Andrew Steele on the relay.

Other notable performances were made by the 400-yard medley relay team consisting of freshman Liam Fitzstevens, senior Stan Le, senior John Flaherty and Sekula as well as Steele in the 200-yard individual medley. The 400 medley relay concluded the evening with a runner-up time of 3:45.26, while Steele was third in his event with a mark of 2:01.66.

Ursinus ended the evening leading the field through five events with 342.5 points, while Swarthmore was second with 255.5 points. Ocean County Community College (146), Cabrini (81) and Lycoming (68) rounded out the team scoring.

The Swarthmore Invitational concludes tomorrow beginning at 9:30 a.m.
