Women's Soccer Shuts Out Wellesley, 1-0, In Kick Classic Finale

Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Relentless rain didn't stop freshmen Amanda Bosworth and Tazmin Bailiff-Curtis from connecting for the game-winning goal midway through the second half, as the Swarthmore College women's soccer team (1-1-0) captured its first win of the 2012 season, defeating Wellesley College 1-0 on the finale day of the Swat Kick Classic on Sunday afternoon.

Bosworth and Bailiff-Curtis turned in their respective first collegiate goal and assist in the 67th minute of the contest. On a corner kick, Bailiff-Curtis sent in a corner kick that found Bosworth, who decisively headed it into the back of the net.

A stalwart defensive effort from the Garnet held the Blue scoreless for the rest of the game and made the one goal, the team's first of the year, stand up.
On the day, the Garnet outshot the Blue 12-8, as both goalkeepers had to stay on their toes. Wellesley keeper, sophomore Claire Cerda had an impressive match despite letting up the lone goal, finishing with five saves. Swarthmore's keeper, freshman Reba Magier, recorded her first clean sheet of the season behind three saves and a strong defensive performance from the Garnet's back three.

Swarthmore hopes to extend its success on Wednesday, September 5th against 320 rival Widener University. The match is billed for 7:00 p.m. at Clothier Field Stadium.
