Cody Finishes 18th Overall at NCAA Regionals; Women's Cross Country Place Tenth

NEWVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's cross country team competed in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional tournament on Saturday. The 6K run was hosted by Dickinson College at Big Spring High School.

Freshman Jenna Cody, an All-Region selection, led the Garnet to a tenth place finish. Cody finished 18th with a time of 22:56.6. Senior Becky Painter was the next Garnet runner across the line (49th/24:04.0), followed by sophomore Liz Tawa (82nd/24:48.8).

Two other freshmen represented the Garnet, including Sarah Nielsen (91st/24:54.4) and Katie McMenamin (108th/25:07.2). The sixth Swarthmore runner was junior Emma Saarel, who finished with a time of 24:58.4 (96th).

The team's tenth place finish came in a field of 49 teams. Johns Hopkins claimed the regional championship, finishing with 63 points. Haverford (79 points) placed second, and Dickinson (126 point) third.

Cody now awaits an at-large spot into the NCAA Championships.
