Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team (9-5, 5-3) suffered a setback in its hunt for the playoffs on Wednesday, falling 2-0 in a hard-fought battle against the Conference rival Muhlenberg Mules.
Both teams were defensively strong in the early going as each offense wasn't able manage many scoring chances. The Mules broke through 25 minutes into the match, as Muhlenberg's Natalie Wizel snuck one past Garnet goalie Reba Magier to put Swarthmore in a 1-0 hole.
Muhlenberg extended its lead f15 minutes into the second half, taking a 2-0 lead into the last half hour of play. The Garnet fought back, putting up five shots (two on goal) before the buzzer, but saves by Muhlenberg goalie Francesca Cobuzzi kept Swarthmore off the board and preserved the win.
Sophomore Emma Sindelar led the Garnet offense with three shots.
Magier finished with four saves between the pipes.
The Garnet will look to get back on track on Sunday, traveling to CCNY for a non-conference match. Action is set to begin 2:30pm from the College of Staten Island.
