No. 13 Women’s Soccer Blows Past Kings in Opening Weekend Finale

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 13 Swarthmore College women's soccer team rolled past King's College with a 8-0 victory on Saturday night. The Garnet were victorious for the second-straight day to wrap up Opening Weekend with a perfect 2-0 record.

The Garnet celebrated Senior Appreciation Day, recognizing the contributions of Charlotte Sims, Lauren Lior, Liesel Blau, Charlotte Carleton, Ava Gizzie, Sofie Aird and Halle Fenkner, who all contributed to an excellent four years of Swarthmore women's soccer.

Swarthmore had 14 different players record points in a well-rounded performance for the squad. Carleton and Sarah Kushnir both notched a pair of goals, while Gizzie, Celia Kanellakos, Madison Stockwell and Anwen Reed added to the scoring. Stella Saad spread the ball around with three assists, while seven other players collected an assist.

Aird and Lili Simcock shared time in goal, combining for the team's second-straight shutout. Both keepers logged a pair of goals with Simcock making a diving attempt to rob the Monarchs of their best scoring chance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gizzie found the back of the net for the second-straight day, accounting for the team's first two goals of the season. The senior speedster was set up by an outstanding pass from Aminah Evans from the opposite side of the field. Eleanor Shanholtzer was also credited with an assist for getting the play started in the ninth minute.

- In the 31st minute, Carleton added to the Senior Day festivities with her first goal of the season. The senior forward buried home a feed from Saad, who connected with Carleton on a nifty centering touch.

- Reed and Kanellakos piled on with two more opening-half scores. Reed put back a second-chance opportunity in the 32nd minute, before Kanellakos followed up a rebound from Saad, who rung a shot off the right post.

- Carleton put an end to an explosive first half with her second goal, and the team's fifth of the stanza. Fenkner touched the ball to her fellow senior, who tapped home an exclamation point on a 5-0 opening half.

- Simcock recorded her first collegiate save in the 55th minute. The rookie corralled a second-chance putback after the initial strike deflected off the crossbar.

- Kushnir collected her first collegiate goal, making the game 6-0 in the 63rd minute. Elin Bash was credited with her first career point after centering an assist to her classmate. Kushnir then netted a second score just seven minutes later off assists from Jordan Vrees and Lucy Aronsohn.

- In the 72nd minute, Stockwell closed out the scoring with the team's eighth tally. Lauren Roche connected with her teammate, who found the back of the net for her first collegiate score.
