Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal Foils No. 13 Women's Soccer Versus No. 18 Rowan

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Rowan University netted the game-winner with just 1:22 remaining as the No. 13 Swarthmore College women's soccer team dropped a close contest to the 18th-ranked Profs, 2-1, at Clothier Field Stadium on Wednesday night.

The two sides got off to a strong start with both finding the back of the net in the opening 11 minutes of the game. The bulk of the bout was a chess match between the two nationally-ranked foes as it remained level until Rowan's late tally. While the Profs had the edge in possession and an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks, both squads managed nine shots on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rowan converted on the first shot of the contest in the eighth minute, blasting in a shot from 30 yards out just under the bar. However, the Garnet needed just three minutes to respond. After a corner kick, a scrum ensued in the box as the two teams battled for a loose ball. Charlotte Carleton finally muscled the ball through the defense and into the net to bring her squad even.

- The two sides settled in and the game became a defensive battle for the remainder of the first half with just four more shots occurring over the last 34 minutes. In the second, Stella Saad had a prime chance to give Swarthmore the edge but her shot in the 58th minute rang off the crossbar.

- The Profs pressured in the 77th minute, forcing Paige Scheinberg to make a diving stop to her left to keep the score tied at one. Two minutes later, a Rowan corner kick eluded a leaping Scheinberg and looked to be bending into the cage but Kate Anderson headed it away from danger just before the ball crossed the goal line.

- The Profs earned another corner kick late in the game. The kick pinballed off players in front until a Rowan attacker got her head on the ball and put it into the goal for a 2-1 advantage. The Garnet were unable to create a game-tying chance in the final seconds.
