Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 21 Women’s Soccer Blanks F&M, Records Fourth-Straight Shutout

LANCASTER, Pa. - The No. 21 Swarthmore College women's soccer team continued its hot stretch with a 1-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall College on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The Garnet defense posted its fourth-straight shutout victory, holding opponents scoreless for the last 445 minutes of action.

Sofie Aird made three saves in her second shutout of the season. The reigning Centennial Defensive Player of the Week has allowed just one goal in 430 minutes of play. Lillian Jarmosevich, Aminah Evans and Bela Odhiambo contributed to today's shutout with a clean 90-minute effort.

Liesel Blau sealed a victory with the game's lone goal. The senior was in the right place at the right time as the Garnet cashed in on a pivotal corner attempt in the 61st minute. Madison Stockwell and Jordan Vrees were credited with assists on the play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet defense survived an early flurry of shots from the Diplomats. The home team held a 4-0 shot advantage in the opening 15-minutes, but failed to put any of their attempts on goal as the Garnet defense held them in check.

- Swarthmore's offense began to put together a few threats in the 25th minute. Ava Gizzie had the team's first attempt with a blocked shot, before Zoe Finelli and Celia Kanellakos both registered strikes off a Garnet corner in the following minute.

- Aird made her first save attempt with a stop in the 27th minute. Kate Anderson then responded with Swarthmore's first shot on goal, but was turned away in the 31st minute.

- Both teams traded scoring chances early in the second half. Gizzie forced the Diplomats into a save in the 54th minute, while Aird turned away Franklin & Marshall just moments later. Blau eventually broke through with the game's lone goal in the 61st minute. The senior drove home a loose ball following a Vrees corner kick, while Stockwell was also credited with an assist on the scramble.

- The Garnet withstood a late Diplomats attack to preserve their 1-0 advantage. Franklin & Marshall fired off five of the last seven shots, but registered just one shot on goal, which was saved by Aird in the 70th minute.
