SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's soccer team was dealt a 3-1 loss by visiting Montclair State University on Wednesday night.
The Red Hawks scored the opening goal just under 10 minutes into the contest and held the advantage at halftime.
Kaden Cho netted his first goal of the year less than five minutes into the second half to bring the Garnet level. Montclair State produced the go-ahead goal on a corner kick in the 79
th minute and added an insurance tally in the final minute of play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Hawks got off to a strong start, registering three corner kicks and four shots within the first 10 minutes. The final shot of the stretch found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
- Swarthmore produced four shots and two corner kicks within a five-minute span in the last third of the first half but Montclair State kept the Garnet off the board.
- In the second half, Swarthmore connected 4:41 into the frame to even the score.
Ben Fair one-touched a pass to
Colin Solic on the right side of the box. Solic crossed through the middle with a seeing-eye pass that eluded a few players and found Cho at the post, who tapped it in to finish the play.
- After the Cho goal, the Red Hawks locked down and controlled play, outshooting the Garnet 13-2 for the half. Montclair State's pressure paid off when it picked up its eighth and final corner kick of the game in the 79
th minute. The Red Hawks hooked the ball straight into the net to take a 2-1 edge. MSU did not allow a shot by Swarthmore down the stretch before putting the game away with another goal in the final minute.
