HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Swarthmore College volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at Stevens Institute of Technology. The Garnet swept Kean University, 3-0, before falling to the host Ducks, 3-1.
Melissa Eyer recorded the highlight of the day for Swarthmore, reaching 1,000 career digs in the match against Stevens. She finished with 35 over the two matches.
Isabel Adam paced the Garnet offense with 20 kills with
Ella Tsai close behind at 19 kills.
Maya Sheridan compiled 37 assists and five service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore opened a 5-3 lead to start the match but the Cougars followed with six unanswered points for a 9-5 advantage. Kean led 13-11 when the Garnet went on an 11-2 run to go ahead 22-15. Adam and
Alexia Enache each had two kills and Swarthmore recorded three aces during the stretch. Another ace gave the Garnet a 25-17 victory.
- Kean had an early 5-4 edge in the second set before Swarthmore rallied for nine of the next 11 points and a 13-7 lead. The Cougars cut the deficit in half at 13-10 but the Garnet pulled away again with four of the next five. Kean fought back with an 8-3 surge to get within one (20-19) but Swarthmore scored five of six to wrap up the set 25-20.
- The Cougars led 10-7 in the third set when the Garnet produced eight unanswered to take a 15-10 advantage. Sheridan led the way with two aces and a kill. The score was 16-13 when Swarthmore got hot again, rattling off nine of the next 10 to finish off the match. Eyer had a pair of aces and four different players registered a kill during the final stretch.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two sides traded runs throughout the first set until it was 17-all. The Garnet then took over for good with a 5-0 rally. A kill by Enache gave Swarthmore the set 25-21. The teams went back-and-forth again in the second frame and were level at 14 apiece. The Ducks went in front with a 7-3 stretch and went on to win the set 25-22.
- In the third, the Garnet held a 5-4 edge when Stevens took control with a 12-4 run. Swarthmore was only able to get within four and the Ducks scored five of the last six to win 25-17. Stevens got out to a 7-2 lead in the fourth set but the Garnet posted five points in a row to even the score. However, the Ducks responded with an 8-1 surge for a 15-8 cushion. Swarthmore got no closer than four points the rest of the way as Stevens closed out the match with a 25-18 triumph.
