No. 13 Women's Soccer Plays to Draw at TCNJ in Action-Packed Affair

EWING, N.J. – The No. 13 Swarthmore College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at The College of New Jersey on Saturday.

The Lions found the back of the net just 4:13 into the contest. Ava Gizzie brought the Garnet level in the 25th minute with their third goal of the season. Both sides had numerous chances to score the go-ahead tally in the second half, combining for 19 shots, but came up empty.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- TCNJ took an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. The Lions nearly made it a two-goal advantage in the 12th minute, getting off a clean shot from the top of the box but Sofie Aird leaped up and punched the offering off the crossbar and away from goal.

- Gizzie almost evened the score in the 24th minute, receiving a pass and pulling off a nifty spin move around a defender to gain space in the box. However, their shot was knocked down by the goalkeeper. The senior broke through just a minute later though, firing in a shot from 25 yards out to tie it up at one.

- Gizzie continued to pester the Lions' defense, ripping off a shot from a tough angle that looked like it might rainbow into the top left corner. However, the goalie made a leaping stop and kept the score level in the 26th minute.

- After assisting on Gizzie's goal, Celia Kanellakos nearly found the back of the net herself in the 35th minute. The junior blasted a shot from 25 yards that forced the goalkeeper to leave her feet again for another leaping save.

- In the second half, the Lions led the shot count, 11-8, but Swarthmore continued to produce high-quality chances. Aminah Evans took a free kick from 35 yards away in the 79th minute and sent a rocket towards the cage. The TCNJ goalie once again made a jumping stop, punching the ball up and off the bar. Aird was forced to do the same on a point-blank offering in the box in the 81st minute and the teams finished in a draw.
