Men's Soccer Comes Up Short in High-Scoring Affair at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Swarthmore College men's soccer team could not keep up with host Wesleyan University on Saturday, falling by a 5-2 score.

The Garnet struck first on a penalty kick just over two minutes into the contest, but the Cardinals answered with three consecutive goals. After Swarthmore cut the deficit to one in the second half, Wesleyan responded with two tallies in the final 11 minutes to put the game away.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet earned an early chance just 2:13 into the opening half, drawing a penalty kick. Joost Almekinders converted for his team-leading third goal of the season. However, the Cardinals evened it up in the 11th minute.

- Almekinders nearly netted his second of the day in the 21st minute but his shot struck the right post. The two sides remained level at one after 45 minutes of play.

- Wesleyan took control in the second half, recording 11 shots and conceding just one attempt from Swarthmore. The Cardinals took the lead in the 53rd minute and made it 3-1 in the 64th minute.

- The Garnet did connect on their only shot of the period, as Kaden Cho got his squad within one (3-2) with his first goal of the season. Wesleyan did not allow another opportunity though and pulled away with markers in the 80th and 85th minutes.
