Women’s Lacrosse Snaps Win Streak at No. 11 Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team had its six-game win streak come to an end with an 18-9 loss to No. 11 Gettysburg College on Saturday. The Garnet tied the game coming out of halftime, but surrendered nine-unanswered goals to close a pivotal third period.

Annabel Stifler led the Garnet offense with a game-high five goals, including four in the second quarter. Kate Fox also added a couple scores, while Aubree Daugherty and Kela Watts both tallied one score.

Isabella Fermo led the squad with five draw controls, while Gillian Will added a team-best four ground balls. Brooke Carrier tallied double-digit saves for the sixth time this season, totaling ten on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bullets got off to a fast start, blanking the Garnet offense in the opening period. Gettysburg scored four goals while holding an 11-4 shot advantage. Carrier made four saves to help limit the damage, but surrendered four goals to put Swarthmore at a 4-0 deficit.

- Swarthmore climbed back into the game with six goals in the second period. Stifler capitalized on a free position opportunity to notch the team's first goal with 13:09 left. The senior then scored another tally sandwiched between a couple Gettysburg scores, making it 6-2 Bullets. Swarthmore then went on a run with three-straight goals from Daugherty, Fox and Stifler to pull within one score. Following a Bullets score, Stifler added her fourth of the quarter to trail the Bullets by one goal at the half. Carrier made two saves in the stanza, while the Garnet offense capitalized on every shot on goal.

- The Bullets put their foot down with a 9-1 advantage in the third quarter. Watts opened up the half with a game-tying score off an assist from Fox. However, the Bullets would dictate the remainder of the period with nine-unanswered scores to take a 16-7 advantage.

- Gettysburg carried its momentum into the fourth quarter, scoring its tenth consecutive goal to build a ten-goal cushion. Stifler finally got her team back on track with a power-play goal at the 11:21 mark. Fox added another later in the period, as the teams split the quarter with two goals apiece.
