SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 23 Haverford College, 17-5, in the regular season finale on Saturday at Clothier Field Stadium.
The Fords opened up a 7-2 lead early in the second quarter before the Garnet netted three in a row to trail by two (7-5) with 2:49 left before halftime. However, Haverford scored the final goal of the period and then outscored Swarthmore 9-0 in the second half to pull away for the victory.
Aubree Daugherty tallied one goal and two assists to pace the Garnet with four other players recording a goal. Daugherty was one of eight Swarthmore seniors honored before the contest along with
Carly Rodrigues-Reilly,
Gillian Will,
Lilly Lewis,
Amanda Morris,
Annabel Stifler,
Emma Hickey, and
Kela Watts.
The Garnet finish the conference schedule with a 5-3 record, their highest Centennial win total since 2012. They are slotted as the fourth seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament. Swarthmore will host fifth-seeded Washington College in the first round on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Fords scored back-to-back goals to start the game and netted four of the first five in the opening quarter to lead 4-1 after 15 minutes of play. Rodrigues-Reilly had the lone tally for the Garnet in the stanza.
- Daugherty opened the scoring in the second for Swarthmore but Haverford answered with three straight goals to up the margin to five (7-2). The Garnet rallied to get within two again (7-5) behind goals from Stifler,
Kate Fox, and Watts. However, the Fords potted the final marker of the half to lead 8-5 at the break.
- Haverford dominated the final 30 minutes, scoring all nine tallies and limiting Swarthmore to four shots on goal over the last two quarters.
